Maya Hayuk was born in Baltimore Maryland 1969; she is an American street and studio artist. She is famously known for her complex and captivating geometrical patterns she engages on large-scale street murals that are seen all around the globe. Maya Hayuk’s parents were both respected university professors so, much of her childhood she spent traveling around the world. She explored many places in Africa, Europe and America, where she was exposed to many different visual techniques and point of views. Back in America, Maya now resides in Brooklyn. Maya studied at the University of Odessa, the Massachusetts College of Art, and the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture where she received an Intermedia degree.

Maya Hayuk is greatly inspired by mandalas, holograms, and traditional Ukrainian Easter egg paintings to produce elaborate abstractions on outdoor walls. Her works are characterized by harmonized structures and forms, emphasized through the use of bright colors. Maya created a large-scale mural in Wynwood, Miami with her symmetrical compositions, intricate patterns, and vibrant colors. Her mural is massive and impactful; it consists of crisscross diagonal lines intersecting all throughout her piece. The large use of warm and cold colors together creates a canvas of unity. Vibrant and vivid colors is highly highlighted throughout every mural she creates.

Hayuk takes on powerful colors as well as complex and enchanting geometrical patterns in a psychedelic way and embraces themes of sexuality and spiritually through expressive symbolism and woven geometries. The brightness and massively large compositions are radiate and full of love, life, and complete pleasure. All created with a wide variety of material including acrylic, spray paint, and tape.

About 3 years ago, I was lucky enough to explore the Walls of Wynwood. Where I came across Maya Hayuk’s massively colorful and geometrical mural. At first look it was breath taking and impactful. Her art really makes you think about the time, effort, and love it takes to create something that beautiful. Maya’s works resonates with me greatly mainly because I see love and life the same way she paints it. In my eyes love is colorful and life is full of color.
